Seaspray Day Sailing – Two Islands & Village Tour Includes Drinks & Lunch

We loved this trip, the boat was big and roomy with real character, mooring just off the beach on the island Tom Hanks filmed Castaway was a real buzz. Jumping off the side, snorkeling in the crystal clear water with loads of pretty fish to keep us amused for a whole hour.  Lunch was on board with plenty of goodies washed down with unlimited cold beers – nice!  Next island was a tour of a traditional Fijian village, really interesting for sure, then a casual cruise back again.

  • Why go on this trip…
    • Seaspray is a big 83 foot schooner made for smooth sailing
    • Loved the bubbles as soon as we were welcomed onboard – better drink lots of water!
    • Sail to Monuriki Island (where Tom Hanks filmed the “Cast Away” movie)
    • The crew are great singers and will happily play songs all day long
    • Monuriki is a deserted island so no resorts or other people here
    • Anchored up for a whole 1 hour of exploring
    • Go ashore – jump straight off the boat & snorkel or swim ashore
    • If you’re not keen on the big jump or swimming then the boys will take you ashore in the small boat
    • Explore the deserted island and sunbathe on the soft white sand
    • Snorkelling is a must the fish life is amazing, our highlight was meeting a school of super friendly cuttle fish
    • Back on board for a delicious BBQ lunch with fresh salads, rice, BBQ chicken, fish & sausages and more beers
    • Head over to Yanuya Island to visit a traditional Fijian island village (no visit to the village on a Sunday)
    • You’ll be welcomed ashore with a Kava ceremony
    • Explore the village, meet the locals, even the school. A true highlight! (not on a Sunday)
    • Morning & afternoon tea with lovely cake and shortbread biscuits are served on board
    • Unlimited beer (Fiji Gold & Bitter), bubbles, Aussie white wine & soft drinks whilst on Seaspray, available as soon as you board – try not to get too excited!

Who is it best suited to…

    • Backpackers
    • The young at heart
    • Not suitable for kids under 10

What’s not so good about it…

    • Don’t go on a Sunday as you’ll miss out on the Kava ceremony and most of the interesting stuff at the village
    • No red wine available

The Adventure

The whole day is a highlight! But two of the standout features from the day are the visits to Modriki Island and Yanuya Island.

Modriki Island

  •  Modriki (pronounced ”Mon-driki”) is a pristine little haven.
  • The sand is vividly white, and the water is the clearest blue you can imagine.
  • The island was made famous in year 2000 when ”Cast Away”, the Hollywood block-buster movie staring Tom Hanks was released.
  • Modriki is the island at which the movie was filmed, and although Tom’s character just wanted to escape Modriki, the last thing you”ll want to do is leave!
  • With a Seaspray cruise you can snorkel your way to shore and explore the deserted island, sunbathe on the soft sand, or read a book under a coconut tree.
  • You”ll probably find you”ll be snapping a lot of photos too as this lovely island sure is photogenic!

Yanuya Island

  • When you step ashore at Yanuya, your smile will just grow wider as you meet the local villagers.
  • This Mamanuca Island is home to a traditional Fiji Island village.
  • The villagers welcome Seaspray guests with a Kava ceremony so you”ll be able to try some kava if you wish and then chat to the locals as you browse their handicraft.

Food and Drink

  • There”s nothing like a day at sea for a big appetite so we include morning and afternoon tea plus a delicious barbecue lunch.
  • All your drinks are included as well with wine, beer, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

Fiji Island Village Customs

  • While visiting the village you”re free to walk around at your own leisure.
  • We ask that the following customs be observed to respect the villagers:
  • Do not wear a hat in the village including caps, visors etc.
  • Only the chief has the right to wear a hat in a Fijian Village.
  • Of course, you”re welcome to take a hat along with you as the Fiji sun is hot, but please remove it at the village.
  • Dress modestly when in the village (women are requested to wear a sarong or long skirt whilst in the village).
  • When on the beach swimsuits including bikinis are acceptable.
